All Form one students take part in the ‘Making A Difference program’. It builds their confidence in reading and speaking English with hands-on tasks and word games. Students learn how to differentiate between common vowel sounds and diphthongs. They can then recognise and produce the common sight words, consonants, digraphs and clusters. This programme facilitates English speaking skills for Form one students and makes them more confident at using English in the classroom.

Adapted from the Edinburgh Project on Extensive Reading (EPER), our school has launched a school-based extensive reading programme called Reading to-learn Programme to cultivate an interest in reading among students and enhance their reading skills. All S1 and S2 students have to take the EPER placement test at the beginning of the school year to measure their reading level. Students are assigned into 4 groups (L1-4) according to their pre-test results. Graded reading materials and varied teaching activities are used in class to cater students’ individual needs. Reading to-learn lessons are conducted every week. Thanks to the implementation of bring your own device policy (BYOD), an interactive online reading platform called i-learner is introduced in reading to-learn classes. Students are allowed to read a variety of interesting reading materials in different themes via this platform with the use of tablets to arouse their interest in learning. Follow-up tasks are also done to polish students’ reading skills based on their performance in the online tasks. All students are asked to attempt a post-test in order to measure their learning progress.

Introduce the E.A.G.Le Centre Students can go to room 201 during lunch 2. Room 201 is the ‘English Activities and Games for Learning’ (E.A.G.Le centre). Students have the choice of a lot of activities such as online word games, memory card activities or vocabulary games in ‘Quizlet’. We also play board games or watch English comedy on TV. There is also a reading corner, well stocked with books in English at all levels. Students also enjoy the comfortable soft chairs.

S4 Hands-on experience lessons

Last year, F.4 students had the chance to read the meaningful and inspiring book Who moved my cheese?, and participated in an activity related to it. Since its publication in 1998, it has been very popular around the world, and changed many people’s lives.It is about being brave about, and embracing changes in our lives.

S5 Hands-on experience lessons

The S5 ‘Hands-on English’ game booths were a lively hub of activity. Students enjoyed dancing and singing at the beginning and the end of activity.

S6 Hands-on experience lessons

To prepare our S6 students for further studies and future careers, The English department joined hands with the Career and Guidance Committee to arrange a series of career-related activities to guide students through the process of resume writing and job interview.

Christmas Activities

Christmas was in full swing as students excitedly gathered to solve festive riddles. After successfully answering 5 riddles, they also tried to create a whimsical snowman, carefully drawing and painting its features according to the instructions on the paper. Beaming with pride, students returned their 'Five riddle answers post cards’ and were thrilled to receive prizes from their English teachers.

Halloween Activities

How is Halloween celebrated at your school? It has been a tradition at KSKC to celebrate Halloween with a variety of English activities from trick or treating to apple bobbing with English teachers. This year, some students even dressed up in their own costumes and wandered around the campus while trick or treating. Apple bobbing was the highlight of our Halloween activities this year. Students had to compete with each other to grab as many apples as possible from the water to be the winners of the game.

K-Channel is one of our cherished English activities, where students watch their classmates and teachers perform role plays during morning assembly. They enjoy learning idioms, vocabulary, phrases, and proverbs through these engaging performances. By answering related questions, they earn points that can be redeemed for exciting prizes each term.
